Supervision Agreement

Complete your BBS Supervision Agreement together.

Start your half of the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) Supervision Agreement in SparkHours. Your supervisor receives a private link and reviews the supervisory plan. You countersign the final version before you both receive the signed PDF.

For California supervisory relationships that began on or after January 1, 2022.

The signing flow

You draft the plan. Your supervisor reviews it. You sign last.

Choose your supervisor and supervision start date. Write the supervisory plan and save your half. When you are ready, send a private signing link. Your supervisor can revise the plan before signing. SparkHours shows you what changed before you countersign.

  • Your supervisor doesn't need a SparkHours account
  • The supervisor can revise the plan before signing
  • You review the final plan before your countersignature
  • Both parties receive the completed PDF by email

Supervision Agreements

Your agreements

For California supervisory relationships that began on or after January 1, 2022, an agreement is required with each supervisor you log hours under.

Sofia Example

Supervision started Sep 28, 2026

Waiting on you
A supervision agreement ready for Mara Fictional to review and sign.

What the agreement covers

One agreement follows one supervisory relationship.

It follows you and your supervisor, not a single work setting. It can cover every setting where you see that supervisor and both tracks if you are pursuing two licenses.

Keep this separate from your weekly logs.

Use weekly logs to record and sign your hours. Use the Supervision Agreement to document the supervisory relationship and plan. SparkHours doesn't create the employer-specific Written Oversight Agreement.

  • One agreement for each trainee and supervisor relationship
  • A later relationship with the same supervisor needs a new agreement
  • Weekly logs use their own signing flow

The completed record

Sign it within the time BBS gives you.

For a new supervisory relationship established on or after January 1, 2022, while you are gaining hours toward California LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC licensure, you and your supervisor must sign the Supervision Agreement within 60 days after supervision begins. If the relationship lasts fewer than 60 days, sign it before it ends.

  • See the current state

The agreement shows whether it hasn't been sent, is waiting on your supervisor, is waiting on you, or has been signed, declined, or retracted.

  • Finish the agreement

After both parties sign, SparkHours emails the signed PDF to both of you.

  • Keep it for your application

Keep the signed agreement. BBS directs the supervisee to submit it with the licensure application.

A paper option

Use a fillable PDF if your supervisor can't sign online.

Download the agreement to sign on paper. SparkHours fills the trainee fields and leaves the supervisor’s fields for the supervisor to complete.

  • Download before the agreement is complete
  • Supervisor fields remain for the supervisor to fill in
  • Keep the signed paper copy with your records
