The problem

The 1,250-hour problem (and other ways spreadsheets let you down)

The LPCC track has a wrinkle that spreadsheets handle particularly badly: non-clinical hours are capped at 1,250, and the Board's own list of what counts as non-clinical starts with direct supervisor contact. Psychological testing, clinical reports, progress and process notes, client-centered advocacy, approved workshops, and the supervision you are required to attend every week all draw on that same 1,250. Nothing stops you logging more. The Board just stops counting it toward the 3,000.

A spreadsheet won't tap you on the shoulder about that. Its SUM keeps climbing past 1,250 like the cap doesn't exist, so it tells you 3,000 while the Board reads something lower. It won't flag that your BBS form columns don't add up. It won't notice you forgot to log supervision last Tuesday, or that only 41 of your 104 weeks so far included individual or triadic supervision when 52 of them have to. It's a grid. It holds numbers. That's all it does.

Both require 3,000 total hours and 1,750 hours of direct client contact. Both MFT Trainees and PCC Trainees follow a 5:1 ratio during practicum. The Board averages that over your whole time at each setting. The real differences are the subset and the starting line. LMFT carves 500 hours of work with couples, families, and children out of the 1,750, while LPCC has no specialty subset at all. AMFTs can count up to 1,300 pre-degree hours, where APCCs can count none, so every hour toward your 3,000 is post-degree. They also use different BBS weekly log forms.
