# SparkHours vs Tevera for ASW Hours in California

If you are an ASW tracking hours toward LCSW licensure, this page compares SparkHours and Tevera across the things that matter on your track. Tevera keeps working after you graduate. It doesn't reach the ASW track.

## Overview

Tevera is now Experiential Learning Cloud, a Lumivero product sold to graduate programs and then to their students. It doesn't shut off when you graduate. Your account moves to alumni status. You keep logging new hours in the same database you used as a student, at no new charge.

SparkHours is built for one board and three license tracks. You buy it yourself, it produces the California BBS (Board of Behavioral Sciences) forms for all three tracks, and it applies the Board's rules to each week as you log it.

Tevera produces a California weekly report for the LMFT track and one for the LPCC track. It doesn't cover the ASW track: there's no California weekly log for ASWs and no Experience Verification form.

## LCSW-Specific Requirements

ASWs pursuing LCSW licensure must complete:

- **3,000 total hours** of supervised experience, over at least **104 weeks**
- **2,000 hours of Clinical Social Work Services** as a minimum within that total. The Board describes it as clinical psychosocial diagnosis, assessment and treatment, including psychotherapy or counseling. This is not "direct client contact." Client-centered advocacy sits on the non-clinical side even though you spend those hours with a client.
- **750 hours of face-to-face individual or group psychotherapy**, carved out of the 2,000 rather than added to it
- **At most 1,000 non-clinical hours.** That ceiling is tighter than the other two tracks carry, and your supervision time comes out of it.
- **At least 1,700 hours under the supervision of an LCSW**, and at least **13 of your 52 individual or triadic supervision weeks** with an LCSW. That is about who supervised you, not about which bucket the hours land in. It's a floor, not a cap, so an LCSW can supervise all 3,000.
- **Supervision requirements**: at least 1 unit in any week you log experience at that setting, and a second unit in any week you provide more than 10 hours of direct clinical counseling there
- **Qualifying supervisors above the 1,700**: an LMFT, LPCC or licensed psychologist. A physician certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology counts too. A licensed educational psychologist can supervise at most 1,200 hours, and only educationally related mental health services.
- **Weekly supervisor signatures** on your hour logs

One unit of supervision equals one hour of individual or triadic supervision, or two hours of group supervision.

No pre-degree hours count toward the LCSW 3,000. Your field placement doesn't reach it. The earliest hour you can count is the day your degree is awarded. That only works under the Board's 90-Day Rule. It needs your application in on time and your Live Scan done first. Otherwise your count starts the day your ASW number is issued.

### Coverage on the ASW Track

**SparkHours**: Produces the ASW weekly log (form 37A-638) and the Experience Verification form, filled in from the hours you already logged. The Experience Verification form is built out of the weeks your supervisor already signed, one per supervisor and work setting.

**Tevera**: It produces a California weekly report for the LMFT track and one for the LPCC track, and none for ASW. A general post-graduate hours log is available to alumni on any track.

**Tevera**: Alumni status keeps the account working. You add your graduation date in your settings, your student placements close as of that date, and you add your post-degree placements as a graduate. Alumni access comes with what you already paid.

### Which Hours Land in the 2,000

Clinical Social Work Services means clinical psychosocial diagnosis, assessment and treatment. That isn't the same as direct client contact. Client-centered advocacy is client-facing, and the Board still files it as non-clinical. So it eats your 1,000-hour ceiling instead of counting toward your 2,000. Your supervision time comes out of that same ceiling, which is tighter here than on the other two tracks. **SparkHours**: Keeps a running total of the 2,000-hour Clinical Social Work Services minimum, the 750 face-to-face psychotherapy hours inside it, and the 1,000-hour non-clinical ceiling that your supervision time comes out of. Every hour you log also carries the supervisor who signed it and the license they hold. The 1,700-hour LCSW floor and the 13 LCSW weeks are not something you reconstruct at the end.

**Tevera**: Its California BBS reports are the LMFT one and the LPCC one. Nothing on the ASW track covers these totals.

### Weekly Supervision Checking

**SparkHours**: Checks your supervision while the week is still open. A current-week shortfall shows as a warning, a past-week shortfall as an error.

**Tevera**: No.

### Progress Tracking

**SparkHours**: Dashboard shows total countable hours, a progress bar, weekly pace, and a projected completion date after 12 weeks of data. Set a target date and see whether your pace will meet it.
